ACMC was formed in 1995 by Andrew Self. The company was intended to help the industry to manage the underground environment to a standard much higher than was then the case. This resulted from a number of incidents in Australasia between 1991-1995. The purpose has not changed largely, although the industry is in much better condition with regard to gas and ventilation management than it was then, but the mission continues.
ACMC was never intended to be a large company. An obsession with the quality of work delivered made that non negotiable. There are currently two consultants and that is easily managed. It is unlikely that the number would exceed four without compromising quality control. The owner is technically minded and is motivated by technical problems. Managing people is not on the agenda beyond a small group.
The question has been asked frequently, 'what are you going to do to grow the company.' The standard response is 'nothing.'
